Parks & Property Maintenance
The Public Works Services Department maintains the parks and properties in the Town of Newmarket by:
- Grooming and maintaining Town community parks, neighbourhood parks, parkettes and open spaces, including grass cutting and our environmentally friendly practices of fertilizing, aerating, overseeding and top dressing.
- Conducting playground equipment installation, inspection, repairs, and maintenance, includes surface rehabilitation and replacement.
- Maintaining walkways and trails including the Tom Taylor Trail.
- Maintaining parks hardware including picnic tables, bleachers, park benches, fountains, bridges and park lighting.
- Repairing all fencing, including sports field fencing and backstops.
- Maintaining all playing fields including sports striping, ball infield maintenance and irrigation.
- Maintaining tennis, basketball and volleyball courts.
- Maintaining and planting of the Town's urban forest including road allowance tree trimming, removal of dead or hazardous trees and all replacements.
- Maintaining horticulture including the Main Street Flower Program, Facility and Parks flowerbed planting and maintenance.
- Providing winter maintenance, including snow removal and sanding, salting of selected sidewalks, parking lots, walkways and stairways.

As part of the Town Greening Project, pesticides (insecticides, herbicides and fungicides) have been eliminated and culturally friendly practices have been adopted.
