NEWMARKET, Ontario, April 21, 2009 - The Town of Newmarket invites residents to celebrate their green spirit by participating in the following Enviro Days events and activities:
30th Annual Holland River & Community Clean-up: May 2
On May 2, join Mayor Van Bynen and members of Council and pitch-in to help make a difference in your community by cleaning up refuse from the Holland River and around the town. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the clean-up runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Gloves and garbage bags will be provided courtesy of Tim Horton's, and volunteers will get a free lunch after the clean-up. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. COMPOST AWARENESS WEEK: May 3 to 9
As part of Compost Awareness Week, the Town of Newmarket will be offering composters, green bins, kitchen catchers and blue boxes for sale at reduced rates from May 3 to 9. Composters will only be sold at the Operations Centre (623 Timothy Street) while all other items can be purchased at the Operations Centre, Ray Twinney Recreation Complex (100 Eagle Street), Magna Centre (800 Mulock Drive) or at the Municipal Offices (395 Mulock Drive). There is a limit of two blue boxes ($3 each for small, $6 each for regular size), two kitchen catchers ($3 each), two green bins ($15 each) and one composter ($30 each) per household, while quantities last.
5th Annual Bogart Creek Community planting day, in conjunction with sunoco earth DAY: May 3
Trees improve our air and water quality and enhance wildlife habitats. Join Councillor Dave Kerwin, along with residents and community organizations on May 3, as they band together to plant trees and clean-up the environment. The event begins at 9 a.m. at the Magna Pond (behind the Magna Centre, 800 Mulock Drive). Gloves and garbage bags will be provided. All ages welcome. 3RD ANNUAL RIDE YOUR BIKE TO WORK DAY
Join Regional Councillor John Taylor and Smart Commute Central York (a partnership program of the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce) in the third annual ride your bike to work day on May 25, from 8 to 9 a.m. Enjoy a complimentary breakfast at the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce (470 Davis Drive) and enter to win a bike and other great prizes. YARD WASTE COLLECTION DAYS: Collected every other Monday

CURBSIDE GIVEAWAY DAYS: April to October
Spring cleaning? On April 25, June 27, August 29, and October 31, place unwanted items at your curb from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Mark the items "FREE" to invite residents to help themselves to your disposed goods.
