Three Stream Waste Management Park Program
Between 24 to 28 per cent of the garbage thrown away in our parks and outdoor areas is
recyclable. With so much reusable waste filling our landfills instead of being turned into something useful, its time to make some changes.
Now Newmarket residents and visitors can help make a difference by participating in the Make the Drop pilot project.
From June 14th to August 29th, people visiting the Tom Taylor Trail System or the Ray Twinney outdoor sports fields can separate their garbage into recyclables, organic material, and general waste as part of Newmarkets and York Regions Three Stream Waste Management Park Pilot Project.
Several styles of receptacles will be placed in various locations around Tom Taylor Trail and the Ray Twinney outdoor sports field for visitors to try out. The container styles will be assessed to determine their effectiveness based on ease of use, the amount of properly discarded material and the level of contamination resulting from incorrectly placed material.
