Accessory Dwelling Units

Accessory Dwelling Units are two seperate living units within one house. Whether it be a basement apartment, in-law suite, second suite or otherwise, these units are required to be registered with the Town of Newmarket.

The Town of Newmarket is reviewing its current Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) registration bylaw. As an interested ADU stakeholder, we want to get your thoughts on the ADU registration process and invite you to share your feedback. Please take 5 minutes to fill out the survey below and help us understand what is important to you when registering an ADU.

Any questions or comments regarding the ADU registration process can be answered by calling 905-895-5193, or by emailing info@newmarket.ca.

Does your property contain more than one dwelling unit or basement apartment? If so, please be advised that the Town of Newmarket has recently appointed an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Enforcement Officer to conduct onsite visits to registered and non-registered ADUs in Newmarket. These visits are being conducted in the interest of public safety and to ensure the units meet the requirements of registration.

For more information on registering your ADU, click here or call 905-895-5193.
