Newmarket sets the stage for arts and culture

The Town of Newmarket is rich in arts and culture and provides several opportunities for residents to participate in cultural activities and artistic programs.  Recognizing the numerous benefits of a vibrant community, the Town is dedicated to preserving, investing and expanding its cultural heritage.

In October 2009, the Town of Newmarket launched its first ever Cultural Master Plan, which will shape the future of arts and culture in Newmarket over the next 10 years.

The Town of Newmarket hosts and sponsors over 80 community special events per year, with 95 per cent including a cultural component.  Some of these events include:

  • The annual Nin Os Kom Tin Aboriginal Festival at Fairy Lake Park
  • Winterfest
  • Artisans Festival
  • Nativity Pageant
  • Kanata

NEWMARKET CELEBRATES THE ARTS GRANT PROGRAM

The Town of Newmarket is proud to announce a new grant program that will support Newmarket's established and aspiring artists and local groups in a range of artist disciplines including visual arts, performing arts (theatre, dance), music, film and literary works.

Newmarket residents, or those involved in Newmarket-based activities, can apply for a grant in the following categories: grants for youth (17 and under) - up to $1,000; grants for post secondary education- up to $5,000; and grants towards project based events - up to $5,000.

Completed applications are due by 4 p.m. on Friday March 12, 2010.
