Any eligible elector in the Town of Newmarket may become a candidate in the Ward 5 By-election.
In order to run for office in Newmarket an individual must be:
A Canadian citizen;
At least 18 years old;
A resident of Newmarket or the owner or tenant of land here, or the spouse of such owner or tenant; and
Who is not disqualified by any legislation from holding office.
Every candidate must file nomination papers prior to receiving any campaign contributions and prior to expending any funds on a campaign.
Nomination papers may be filed as early as July 26, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. and must be filed in person at the Legislative Services Department located at the Municipal Offices, 395 Mulock Drive. Nominations closed as of September 2, 2016.
